Session Description: 
Why do donors make a planned gift? Are they comfortable thinking about their own mortality? Is the planned giving process complicated and intimidating? The Giving USA Foundation’s survey of planned gift donors provides a window into our donors’ thinking. While the insights may surprise you, the conclusion will not, "We believe all fundraisers need to be equipped with a basic knowledge and understanding of planned gift vehicles to ask and encourage donors to make planned gifts." This session with provide a brief overview of the study's findings and an opportunity for in-depth discussion of the practical implications for your planned giving program.

Presenters: 

Carl Newbanks is the Grantsand Development Manager at the Initiative Foundation, a regional community foundation serving 14 counties in Central Minnesota.He has over 30 years of experience working with nonprofits and can often be found volunteering on a local advisory board.Carl is an avid skier in the winter months and spends summer weekends roaming Minnesota with his family and their pop-up camper.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Craig Wruck has more than 40 years of experience in charitable giving in both non-profit and for-profit settings. He has served at the University of Minnesota, California State University, St. Paul Community Foundation, U.S. Trust Company, Kaspick & Company, and US Bank. A frequent speaker and teacher on charitable gift topics, Craig is the author of the book Planned Giving in a Nutshell and a member of the faculty at the American Institute for Philanthropic Studies. He is past chair of the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners and served as its Government Relations Chair. Craig earned an MBA from the University of St. Thomas (MN) and his Bachelor of Science degree in journalism from the University of Utah.
