Join us on Wednesday, July 15 as we are joined by Ramsey County Probate Court Referee, Joel Olson. Joel brings a wealth of knowledge from his tenure with Ramsey County. Bring your questions and engage in a lively discussion. 

Learning Objectives:

  • Define probate 101, how the process works
  • Examine critical items you need to know when talking with donors
  • Evaluate how to safeguard donor gifts after death and during probate administration
  • Identify what has changed due to the COVID-19 crisis


About our speaker:

Joel has been the Probate Referee in Ramsey County for 10 years where he is responsible for processing and adjudication of all probate matters. He also hears commitment and housing cases and is also the manager of all clerks and processes in civil processing, commitment, and probate.

Joel lives in New Brighton and is originally from a farm in Maple Lake, MN. (his parents now run it as a golf course, Albion Ridges). He graduated from West Point and was an active duty Army Armor Officer. After leaving active duty, he went to law school and graduated from William Mitchell. He has worked in varied legal positions: firms- Klemp & Stanton; Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi; business-Wells Fargo and government-Reserve JAG Lieutenant Colonel (Retired on June 1, 2020, after 32 years of military service.)
